DAY 1
Lecture on Palliative Care
As As Part of
Palliative Care Awareness Week, the Palliative Club (2025–2026) of NSS Training
College, Ottapalam, in collaboration with NSS Unit No. 301 and IQAC, organized
the Day 1 programme on 14 January 2026 at 10.00 a.m. in the General Hall.
The programme
featured a lecture on Palliative Care by Mr. Mujeeb, Vice President, CPIP, who
served as the resource person. The session highlighted the importance of
palliative care in enhancing the quality of life of patients through
compassionate, holistic, and community-based support.
The programme
began with a prayer, followed by a welcome address by Samveda P (NSS Member).
Prof. (Dr.) Seema Menon K. P, Teacher Coordinator, delivered the presidential
address, and Prof. (Dr.) Smitha R, Principal-in-Charge, inaugurated the
programme. The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Namitha C, Student
Coordinator.
The lecture was
informative and inspiring, helping students gain valuable insights into the
principles and social relevance of palliative care.
Day 2
Palliative care awareness
The Palliative
Club (2025–2026) of NSS Training College, Ottapalam, in collaboration with IQAC
and NSS Unit No. 301, observed Palliative Care Day on 15 January 2026 with the
objective of creating awareness about the importance of compassionate and
holistic care for patients suffering from chronic and life-limiting illnesses.
The programme
emphasized the significance of palliative care in addressing not only the
physical pain of patients but also their emotional, psychological, and social
needs. Through awareness messages and discussions, students were sensitized to
the values of empathy, dignity, and human concern that form the foundation of
palliative care.
The observance
highlighted the role of community support in improving the quality of life of
patients and their families. Students actively engaged in the programme and
gained a deeper understanding of the need to extend care, comfort, and
companionship to the suffering, especially during vulnerable stages of life.
The programme was
effectively coordinated by the student coordinators Nayana S, Anupama Raj K P,
and Anagha S Raj, under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Seema Menon K P, Teacher
Coordinator, with the support and encouragement of Prof. (Dr.) Smitha R,
Principal-in-Charge.
The observance of
Palliative Care Day was meaningful and impactful, reinforcing the spirit of
service, compassion, and social responsibility among the students.
Day 3
Poly Garden Visit
As part of
Palliative Care Awareness Week, the Palliative Club (2024–2025) of NSS Training
College, Ottapalam, in collaboration with NSS Unit and IQAC, organized a Poly
Garden Visit on 17 January 2025 as the Day 3 programme.
The visit was
arranged with the objective of promoting emotional well-being, mindfulness, and
appreciation of nature as an integral part of holistic palliative care. The
serene environment of the poly garden offered students an opportunity to
experience the therapeutic value of greenery and natural surroundings.
During the visit,
students learned about various plant species and the role of nature in reducing
stress and enhancing mental health. The programme emphasized the importance of
incorporating natural elements into care practices to improve the quality of life
of patients receiving palliative care.
The activity
encouraged students to reflect on the healing power of nature and its relevance
in providing comfort and emotional support to individuals facing illness.
Students actively participated and found the visit refreshing and informative.
The programme was
effectively coordinated under the guidance of Dr. Seema Menon K. P, Teacher
Coordinator, with the support and encouragement of Dr. Smitha R,
Principal-in-Charge.
The Poly Garden
Visit was a meaningful and enriching experience that contributed positively to
the objectives of Palliative Care Awareness Week.

Day 4
Fund raising
As part of
Palliative Care Awareness Week, the Palliative Club of NSS Training College,
Ottapalam, in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and
NSS Unit No. 301, organized a fund-raising programme through box collection on
19 January 2026 (Day 4). The initiative aimed to generate financial support for
palliative care patients while creating awareness about the importance of
collective responsibility and compassionate care for individuals suffering from
chronic and life-limiting illnesses.
The programme
witnessed active participation from students, who contributed generously and
demonstrated a strong sense of empathy and social commitment. The activity was
coordinated by the student coordinators Anagha Surendran and Meera Krishna,
under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Seema Menon K P, Teacher Coordinator, with
the support and encouragement of Prof. (Dr.) Smitha R, Principal-in-Charge. The
fund-raising initiative proved to be meaningful and impactful, reinforcing the
values of service, compassion, and social responsibility among the student
community.
Day 5
Short film screening
The Palliative
Club (2025–2026) of NSS Training College, Ottapalam, in collaboration with IQAC
and NSS Unit No. 301, organized the Day 5 programme of Palliative Care
Awareness Week on 20 January 2026 at 1.00 pm in the Open Auditorium.
The programme
featured a screening of a short film highlighting the importance of empathy,
dignity, and compassionate care in palliative services. The film sensitively
portrayed the emotional and social aspects of patient care, creating a
reflective and engaging atmosphere among the students.

Coordinator. The event was conducted successfully with the support and
encouragement of Prof. (Dr.) Smitha R, Principal-in-Charge.
The Day 5
programme of Palliative Care Awareness Week proved to be meaningful and
impactful, significantly contributing to awareness creation and reinforcing the
core values of empathy, care, and service among the students.
Day 6
Flash Mob
NSS Training
College, Ottapalam, observed Palliative Care Awareness Week with a variety of
programmes aimed at promoting compassion, empathy, and social responsibility
among students. As part of the celebrations, a Flash Mob was organized on 21
January 2026 at 1 PM in the Open Auditorium.
The programme was
conducted by the Palliative Club in collaboration with IQAC and NSS Unit No.
301, and was coordinated by the Department of Mathematics. The event was held
under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Smitha R, Principal-in-Charge, and Prof.
(Dr.) Seema Menon K. P., Teacher Coordinator.
The flash mob was
organized with the theme “Palliative Care”, aiming to create awareness about
the importance of compassionate care for patients with serious or life-limiting
illnesses. Through music, synchronized movements, and expressive performances, the
participants conveyed powerful messages about empathy, support, dignity, and
the need for community involvement in palliative care.
Students from all
departments actively participated in the programme, making it a lively and
meaningful event. The performance attracted the attention of the entire campus
and effectively communicated the significance of palliative care in society.
The creative presentation helped in sensitizing students to the emotional and
social aspects of caring for those in need.
The programme
concluded with appreciation for the participants and coordinators who worked
together to make the event a success. The flash mob served as an engaging
platform to spread awareness and reinforce the values of compassion and
collective responsibility, aligning with the objectives of Palliative Care
Awareness Week.
Day 7
Sale of products
As part of Palliative Care Awareness Week – Day 7, a sale of products made by palliative care patients (handicapped individuals) was organized by the TCAM Palliative Club in association with IQAC and NSS Unit No. 301 at NSS Training College, Ottapalam. The programme was conducted under the guidance and support of Prof. (Dr.) Seema Menon K. P., Teacher Coordinator. The activity was effectively coordinated by the student coordinators Angel Joshy
The sale aimed to
support the livelihood of palliative care patients and to promote awareness
about compassion and social responsibility among students. The products
included washing powder and umbrellas, which were prepared by the patients for
their living. During the programme, 15 packets of washing powder and 4
umbrellas were successfully sold. The amount collected from the sale was handed
over to the concerned authority for the benefit of the palliative care
patients.
The programme was
meaningful and helped inculcate values of empathy, service, and community
involvement among the students.
Charity Work
During Onam
The Palliative
Club (2025–2026) of NSS Training College, Ottapalam organized meaningful
charity activities in connection with Onam 2025, with the aim of promoting
compassion, inclusiveness, and social responsibility among students. As part of
the celebration, an umbrella sale was organized on the college campus,
featuring umbrellas made by individuals with health issues, to support their
livelihood and promote dignified employment.
Along with this
initiative, the club conducted a charitable drive by collecting contributions
from students. The collected amount was utilized to distribute 100 food kits to
individuals and families in need, thereby reflecting the true spirit of
Onam—sharing, care, and togetherness.
The programme
emphasized the values of empathy, generosity, and social commitment. Students
actively participated in the activities, demonstrating a strong sense of
responsibility towards community welfare. The initiatives highlighted that
festivals are not merely occasions for celebration, but opportunities to extend
care, kindness, and meaningful support to the less fortunate.
The charity
activities were successfully coordinated by the Palliative Club Executive
Committee members under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Seema Menon K P, Teacher
Coordinator, with the encouragement and support of Prof. (Dr.) Smitha R,
Principal-in-Charge.
The Onam charity
initiatives organized by the Palliative Club were socially relevant and
impactful, leaving a lasting impression on both the participants and the
beneficiaries.
