Activities Report 2024–25

The Palliative Care Unit of NSS Training College, Ottapalam, was officially inaugurated on 19th August 2024, marking a heartfelt step towards service and compassion. Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Seema Menon K P (Staff Coordinator) and Preyas Prabhakaran (Student Coordinator, 1st Year B.Ed. Physical Science), the unit began its journey with a strong team of 15 dedicated members from both the B.Ed. and M.Ed. first-year batches.

The inaugural ceremony was graced by Mujeeb Sir as the chief guest, who enlightened the gathering with an inspiring talk on the importance of palliative care and the role students can play in supporting the cause. The event was followed by a planning meeting, where members brainstormed ideas and chalked out the future course of action.

๐ŸŒผ Palliative Awareness Week – January 2025

To spread awareness and empathy, the Palliative Care Unit organized a Palliative Awareness Week in the first week of January 2025. The week saw vibrant collaboration and participation across departments:

๐ŸŽฌ Short Film Screening:

The B.Ed. Natural Science and Malayalam departments collaborated to screen a short film, capturing the emotional strength and resilience of palliative care patients.

๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿชง Flash Mob with a Message:

The B.Ed. Physical Science students performed an energetic flash mob, while Mathematics students presented placards with meaningful quotes highlighting compassion and care.

 

๐Ÿ‘• Cloth Collection Drive:

The English Department led a successful cloth donation campaign for the patients of Ottapalam Palliative Care Unit (Polygene Garden).

 

๐Ÿ’ฐ Monetary Box Collection:

The M.Ed. students took the initiative to collect donations through collection boxes, showing how small contributions can make a big difference.

๐Ÿงผ Distribution of Handmade Washing Powder:

Washing powder prepared by the patients themselves was distributed among staff and students—an effort to support their self-sustainability and encourage empathy through interaction.

☔ Umbrella Distribution Drive – June 2025

In mid-June 2025, the unit took another impactful step by distributing handmade umbrellas prepared by palliative care patients. The initiative not only supported their skills but also raised ₹13,740 through contributions from students and staff.

๐ŸŽ Educational Aid Collection – June 2025


Further strengthening its social commitment, the unit raised ₹4,200 to provide educational materials for the children of palliative care patients. This initiative reflected the true spirit of the teaching community in nurturing the next generation.

The Palliative Care Unit of NSS Training College has grown into a symbol of service, compassion, and collaborative action. With consistent efforts from the staff and students, the year 2024–25 has witnessed a range of thoughtful activities that brought smiles, relief, and support to many lives. The unit looks forward to continuing its mission in the coming years with even greater commitment and creativity.
